PALASBARI: The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) at Guwahati, has launched direct flights to Bangkok from Guwahati from today onwards.

The flight is operated by Thai Air Asia. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director of Assam Skill Development Mission, Ankur Jain, Chief Airport Officer, (Guwahati Airport) Utpal Baruah and Chief Executive Officer of Thai Air Asia from Bangkok Wuitchuni Kuntapeng, and Shyam Malani, Director of Indo Thai, Guwahati.

The flight landed at Guwahati airport at 11.10 pm with total of 56 passengers and left at 11.40 pm, for Bangkok with 97 passengers on the first day.

The flight will be operated now three days a week, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flight will take off from Guwahati at 11.40 pm and land in Bangkok at around 2.15 pm Indian time, early morning in Thailand.

In the future, this airline will provide onward connectivity to Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Utpal Baruah, CAO, said on the occasion, "Our airport has marched ahead with this new connection towards making this airport a hub to the South East Asian countries. It will give a fillip to the tourism industry in this region. We should all, at the airport, airline, government and other stakeholders, work jointly to make this route sustainable. "
