Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam Arrested Lat Mondal for Taking Bribe

GUWAHATI: Sleuths from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam on Friday arrested one Lachit Thakuria (57), lat mondal at the office of Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle at Basistha here after the latter was caught red-handed while taking bribe.

Thakuria was arrested at around 2 pm on Friday when he was accepting bribe of Rs 8,000 from complainant Parag Chandra Bhagwati of Bhagaduttapur area in Beltola. The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused. Relevant documents have also been seized from the office of Circle Officer, Dispur Revenue Circle.

A press communiqué issued by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam on Friday evening stated that the complainant had applied for obtaining sale permission for six residential flats to the office of the DC Kamrup (M) through the Circle Officer Dispur. The said sale permissions were recorded at the office of the CO on March 5, 2019. But Lachit Thakuria was adamant in demanding bribe money amount to Rs. 8,000 for each flat sale permission.

Since the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe money, he approached the Anti Corruption Bureau Police Station in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam. Accordingly a trap was laid down as per standard procedure in the matter of ACB PS Case No. 12/2019 dated 01/10/2019 U/S 7(a) of the PC Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) which led to the arrest of the lat mondal while accepting the bribe amount. The accused will be produced before the CJM Court in the city on Saturday.
