GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has assessed the availability of seats for higher secondary (HS) classes in the State.

The assessment has been done as the government feels that the number of students passing the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Assam High Madrassa (AHM) examinations 2021 will be much more this year than the previous years.

Speaking to The Sentinel the Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu said the State Government is hopeful that admission into the HS classes would not be a problem for those who would pass the HSLC/AHM examinations this year. "The government is confident that seats for every successful student will be ensured," he said.

The State Government had cancelled the HSLC/AHM examinations 2021 due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation. The government had constituted a high-powered committee of experts to work out an alternative evaluation formula for HSLC/AHM examinees. The results of the examinations will be declared on Friday (July 30).

Dr Pegu said the HSLC/AHM results this year would be completely record based. "Initially, many thought that there were no academic performance records to assess the performance of HSLC/AHM examinees. But academic records of Class IX and pre-board exams of these students were available. In case students are not happy with their results they can apply online," the Education Minister said.

Chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) RC Jain told The Sentinel that the results of 4.38 lakh students who were supposed to take the HSLC/AHM examinations 2021 would be declared on Friday. He said the SEBA would open a portal on August 5 to enable the students not satisfied with the results to apply for the special examination. The portal will remain open for seven days. Dissatisfied students will have to appear for a special exam. The SEBA will notify the date of the special exam later.
