Dispur & Delhi clueless about whereabouts of IAS officer

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: An IAS officer of Assam has been mysteriously missing for a few years. Neither Dispur nor New Delhi knows the whereabouts of Ashwini Kumar, a 2010-batch IAS officer of Assam.

From 2010 to 2016, IAS officer Ashwini Kumar held various posts as the deputy commissioner of Barpeta, Joint Secretary to the Urban Development and the GDD (Guwahati Development Department) etc.

At the fag-end of 2016, the IAS officer left for Central Deputation in New Delhi in the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD). The Assam Government released him on December 29, 2016. He worked for about a year as the OSD (Officer on Special Duty) of the then HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. The IAS officer then took leave for a few months but never returned for duty. The Central Government did ask him to report for duty before the Assam Government after the expiry of his leave period. However, he has not reported to the Assam Government for duty so far nor to the HRD Ministry. He was supposed to report for duty before the Assam Government in the last part of 2018.

According to sources in the Personnel Department of the State Government, the Central Government wrote several letters to the State Government seeking information about the IAS officer. Recently, an officer from the Central Government talked to an officer of the State Government about information about the IAS officer. The lack of communication from the IAS officer confused both the State and the Central governments.

In the absence of any queries regarding the whereabouts of the IAS officer from his family members, sources in the Personnel Department suspect that the IAS officer might have got a better job somewhere and joined there without informing the Central and the State governments.
