GUWAHATI: The State Government has vowed to take the Amrit Sarovar scheme on a mission mode to make it a success story. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched it today at Loringthepi near Diphu and Karbi Anglong.

Amrit Sarovar is a scheme of water conservation, pisciculture, job generation and commercial plantation – all rolled into one. It will start digging up ponds with an area of not less than one hectare of land each within a few days. The target is to dig around 3,000 Amrit Sarovars in the state.

The Central Government will directly monitor the implementation of projects through a mobile App that it has already launched. All stakeholders of Amrit Sarovar will have to register their scheme details through the App.

It is a mission in which the P&RD (Mahatma Gandhi NREGA and Finance Commission Grants), Fisheries Department and Chief Minister Samagra Gram Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) will have to work as a team. The CMSGUY will implement pisciculture inputs and excavation parts.

The three-layer commercial plantation around each Amrit Sarovar will comprise commercial plants like areca nut, Assam lemon, moringa, neem, mango, guava, litchi etc. Each Amrit Sarovar will have secured chain-link fencing and an iron gate through the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA. It will also have provisions for a flag-hoisting platform and community working shed. It is not all. Each Amrit Sarovar site will also have five solar lights under the Finance Commission grant.

The maximum cost per Amrit Sarovar project is Rs 20.69 lakh per hectare.

Upon completion of construction, women's self-help groups will maintain Amrit Sarovars as a cluster-level federation. They will share the revenue with panchayats or local bodies in Sixth Schedule areas.
