GUWAHATI: Now the Asom Satra Mahasabha (ASM) has taken up the venture of a documentary film on Mahapurush Srimanta Sarkardev in four different languages.

Speaking to The Sentinel, ASM secretary general Kusum Kumar Mahanta said, "The Mahasabha has taken this decision at its recent executive meeting held at Sri Sri Madhupur Xatra at Cooch Behar. We intend to spread the life and teachings of the Mahapurush through this documentary in four different languages: Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and English. Our (ASM's) Koklata branch secretary, Sujit Chakravarty, who is a noted film director, will direct the documentary film. Our target is to hold the mohurat of the documentary on September 30, 2023, at Batadrava Than. The tentative schedule of release of the documentary is December this year."

Xatradhikar Mahanta said, "This documentary on the Mahapurush is the first of its kind. It will depict the life, works, and teachings of the Mahapurush, who spent 12 years on his first pilgrimage. He also went on another pilgrimage for the second time in his lifetime. The documentary will depict all the pilgrim centres where the Mahapurush had his footfall. His creative arts, like Bhaona, the art of masks, writings on xanchipaat, etc., will be part of the documentary, along with his first borgeet and the one he wrote after the birth of his child. The documentary will have briefings about Srimanta Sankardev by noted xatradhikars."

Xatradhikar Mahanta said, "The ASM will bear the entire cost of the documentary film. We will be the producers of the film. The executive meeting held at Sri Sri Madhupur Xatra was the first meeting of the Xatra of the year. The executive meeting discussed the documentary and how to make it a success. Representatives from different ASM branches in Assam, North Bengal, and Kolkata were present at the executive committee meeting."
