DoNER released Rs 540.29 crore under PM-DevINE in FY 2024-25

Guwahati: The Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) released funds to the tune of Rs 540.29 crore for the Northeast under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) in the current financial year. With this, the cumulative release of funds under PM-DevINE now stands at Rs 669.26 crore since FY 2022-23.

PM-DevINE was announced as a new central sector scheme with 100% central funding in the Union Budget 2022-23 with an initial outlay of Rs. 1,500 crore. The Union Cabinet on October 12, 2022, approved the PM-DevINE scheme with a total outlay of Rs. 6,600 crore for the period from FY 2022-23 to FY 2025-2026.

Until November 30, 2024, a total of 35 projects worth Rs. 4857.11 crore have been sanctioned by DoNER under the scheme.

Out of the 35 projects under the scheme, 28 projects have been sanctioned during the year 2023-24 and the current financial year only.

For Assam, DoNER has sanctioned 7 projects so far. Of these, the proposals for 4 projects were forwarded by the Assam government and the remaining 3 by other agencies engaged in the NE.

One of the project proposals forwarded by the Assam government is 'transformation of 20 schools as Centres of Excellence in the Kamrup district.' The physical progress of this work is calculated at around 55%, and the scheduled date of completion is November 30, 2025.

Another proposal concerns the 'upgradation/widening of existing 2-lane road to 4-lane road connecting LGB International Airport-from VIP junction to Dharapur Junction, including (i) 4-lane grade-separated junction at Dharapur, (ii) 2-lane excess road from SOS junction to existing terminal building, and (iii) 2-lane temporary exit from existing terminal building (PWD).' The physical progress achieved in this project is 28%, and the intended date of its completion is February 25, 2026.

The usual timeframe for completion of a project under PM-DevINE is 2 to 3 years after award of the work.
