Don't allow anti-India speech in Waj: DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta

SILCHAR: DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has urged the state Muslims to be careful in inviting moulanas for religious discourses like Waj-e-Mehfil to avoid any anti-India and provocative speeches.
The DGP wrapped up his three-day visit to the Barak Valley today. He said that the police had been keeping a close vigil in the three districts of the valley sharing the border with Bangladesh. He visited the Indo-Bangla border in the Karimganj sector on Wednesday. He expressed concern over the three-kilometre unfenced stretch along the international border.
Inaugurating the new building of Silchar Sadar Thana here today, the DGP said, "Any political and religious development in Bangladesh has its ripple effects in the Barak Valley as smugglers and fundamentalists use the valley as their corridor."
The DGP further said that al-Qaeda and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) set up their bases in Assam. "The police busted sleeper cells of Islamic militant outfits in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal. Certain documents seized prove these outfits' Assam link," the DGP said. He added that though the situation was not grave now, the outfits kept recruiting agents to indoctrinate the Muslim youths. The recent publication of AQIS in Bengali was a clear indication toward that end, the DGP added.
The police arrested several cadres having links with the ABT. The arrest of a Katigorah youth on the charge of his al-Qaeda link indicated the Islamic outfits' plan to set up a strong base in Assam for its proximity to Bangladesh.
"Muslims have every right to discuss or preach their holy Quran, but the police will not tolerate any anti-India speech on the pretext of religious discourse," the DGP said.
