Dos and don'ts during floods and landslides

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has spelt out the dos and don'ts during the current wave of floods and landslides.

The dos are – (i) Drink warm water, (ii) spray medicines in stagnant water, (iii) beware of snakes and other poisonous insects, (iv) beware of loose electric wires, (v) never eat or drink foodstuff prepared with rainwater, and (vi) keep essential medicines ready.

The don'ts are –

(i) Never go to inundated areas bare feet, (ii) don't wade through water current, (iii) beware of electric posts and damaged power lines, (iv) do not drink polluted water, (v) do not let children play in rainwater, and (vi) do not leave rescue or relief centres till the officials concerned declare your locality as safe.
