GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has sent the DPRs (detailed project reports) for several Brahmaputra integrated flood and riverbank erosion risk management projects with an estimated cost of Rs 2,461 crore to the CWC (Central Water Commission) for approval.
According to official sources, the projects include several flood- and erosion-prone LACs (legislative assembly constituencies) in nine districts. The districts are Kamrup, Barpeta, Goalpara, Dhubri, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia.
The State Government did approach the ADB (Asian Development Bank) through the Central government for loans for the integrated flood and riverbank erosion risk management projects. Because of that initiative, ADB is going to provide loans for four megaprojects. The State Water Resources Department has sent the DPRs of the four megaprojects to the CWC for approval.
One of the four projects is the Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project in Morigaon, Nagaon, and Tezpur, with an estimated cost of Rs 699.98 crore. The project will touch 12 LACs: Lahorighat, Jagiroad, Koliabor, Samaguri, Dhing, Rupahihat, Gohpur, Behali, Biswanath, Sootea, Tezpur, and Barsola.
The second Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project in Guwahati West and PGP (Palasbari Gumi Project) with an estimated cost of Rs 294.56 crore will touch three LACs: Chhaygaon, Boko, and Palasbari.
The third Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project in Barpeta, Goalpara, and Dhubri with an estimated cost of Rs 750.94 crore will touch eight LACs: Chenga, Barpeta, Baghbor, Goalpara East, Goalpara West, Jaleswar, South Salmara, and Mankachar.
The fourth Climate Resilient Brahmaputra Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Project in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, with an estimated cost of Rs 716.18 crore, will touch five LACs: Chabua, Sadia, Lahowal, Dibrugarh, and Moran.
The State Government took on all these projects in accordance with its flood-free Assam mission.
