GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the annual state Budget has three thrust areas – educational infrastructure, self-employment and care for the needy.

The Chief Minister said, "The education sector has much to do. The Budget will have allocations for many innovative works in this sector. We are providing jobs to one lakh candidates. Apart from this, we will allocate adequate funds for self-employment. The free distribution of rice and the Orunodoi Scheme will cover more needy people."

He said, "The Union Budget will benefit Assam and other northeastern states in many ways. The Budget allocated Rs 78,500 crore for the Northeast in the tax devolution head. It will make Assam get around Rs 6,400 crore more than the amount it got in the last financial year. Assam will also get the benefits of more interest-free loans in this fiscal. The Budget allocated Rs 1.30-lakh crore interest-free loan this year against Rs 1 lakh crore in the last fiscal."

He said, "The allocation for the DoNER Ministry is almost double this year. The allocation is Rs 5892 crore against Rs 2775 crore last year.

The municipal bodies will get 61 per cent more grants than last year. Likewise, the panchayats will also get 15 per cent more grants this year than last year. The states will also get more benefits this year due to an increase in capital expenditure allocation."
