GUWAHATI: Eight lakh people have not taken the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in the state, despite repeated requests and vaccination drives. The Health Department and NHM (National Health Mission), Assam found it in their analysis.

The Covid-19 vaccination drive began with frontline workers in the state on January 16, 2021. The drive is going in full swing among the 18+ age group, 15-17 age group and the booster dose (precaution dose) for frontline workers and 60+ comorbid patients. According to the Health department and NHM sources, while a section of the eight lakh unvaccinated people lives in hilly terrains, the others are not eager to take vaccine doses for various reasons.

With the government making double-vaccine dose certificates mandatory for access to public places and benefits of various government schemes, the Health Department and the NHM have requested the unvaccinated people to cooperate with them and take the vaccine doses without any further delay. Karbi Anglong is lagging behind others in the vaccination drive because of the hilly terrains and lack of willingness among the people to take vaccines.

According to Health department and NHM sources, they administered 3,97,82,749 vaccine doses – 2,28,57,711 first doses, 1,68,84,356 second doses, 40,682 precaution doses and 7,53,273 doses for the age group 15-17 – till 10 pm on Saturday. Till 7.30 pm today, the department and NHM administered 25,270 vaccine doses. The state had a stock of 73 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses till this morning.
