GUWAHATI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started its inquiry into the assets of former DIG PK Dutta, prime accused in the SI examination question paper leak in the State. As sought, the police have handed over all information they have on Dutta to the ED and the Income Tax department.

Besides his residence, the former DIG has four hotels in Guwahati, an under construction residential building named Bhargav Residency in Dibrugarh, 1600 bigha of land at Udarbond in Cachar district etc., police sources said.

On the report of Dutta taking shelter in Nepal where his son-in-law is staying, the State police is contemplating on sending a team to the neighbouring country.

On the other hand, the other accused in the scam, Diban Deka, is in the custody of the Crime Branch at SOU (Special Operation Unit) of the Special Branch at Kahilipara, Guwahati. The investigators haven't divulged anything about Deka's confessional statements during interrogation.

However, mystery shrouds the investigation as the investigating officer of the Crime Branch has been changed at a time when the investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, the cancelled examination for 597 SI posts (UB) of the Assam Police will now be held on November 22, 2020.
