Exports of jackfruits and green chillies from Dhubri to Dubai begin

DHUBRI: Exports of a commercial consignment of jackfruits and green chillies to Dubai from the Dhubri district started today.

According to official sources, it is the first such export of jackfruits to Dubai from the state.

Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP flagged off the consignment this evening from Bilashipara.

The consignment exported has 1.5 tonnes of tender jackfruit and 0.5 tonnes of green chilli. Lulu Group International with over 200 supermarkets and hypermarkets throughout the Gulf countries.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority coordinated the entire process. After flagging off the consignment, the DC said, "It's a special day for the agro-economics sector of the Dhubri district and Assam. With much speculation and relentless efforts of the district administration and farmers, we can export jackfruits and green chillies from Dhubri to Dubai."

Lulu Group International and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) officials were present during the entire procedure to export jackfruits and green chillies to Dubai from Dhubri.

FPO (farmer producer organization) president Abul Kalam Azad said, "We were waiting for this day for years. We are trying to export green Chillies and tender jackfruits for the last six months. The DC and the SDO (civil) helped us all the time. We are grateful to them."

APEDA Chairman Dr M Angamuthu virtually addressed the gathering.

Lulu Group International General Manager Ravi Kumar, who came from Mumbai to look after the export programme, said that if they get sufficient customers for these two products they will continue to export from Dhubri.

District Development commissioner Kanta Das, SDO(C), Bilashipara Jai Shivani, Sunita Rai, Assistant General Manager( Regional in-Charge), Guwahati of APEDA were also present at the programme.
