First Xattradhikar Niranjan Boro from Bodo community at Borengajuli Xatra

GUWAHATI/TANGLA: History has been scripted in the annals of neo-Vaishnavism or 'Ekasarana Dharma' in Assam with the declaration of the first Xattradhikar from among the Bodos — Niranjan Boro — on Monday. This development has taken place at the Borengajuli Xatra in Udalguri district.

The managing committee of the xattra appointed Niranjan Boro was to the revered post following the demise of the incumbent Xattradhikar Hare Krishna Mahanta last month.

Newly appointed Xattradhikar Niranjan Boro was first inducted in 1981, when he was just eight to nine years of age. He was tendered the formal initiation into the Xattra by the then Xattradhikar Hare Krishna Mahanta.

Xattradhikar Boro will take charge of his responsibilities on August 17, 2021.

CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Visiting the historic Borengajuli Xatra on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid rich tributes to the exponent of Xatriya culture, Xattradhikar (late) Hare Krishna Deb Mahanta.

The Chief Minister — accompanied by the Speaker of ALA (Assam Legislative Assembly), Biswajit Daimary — also paid floral tributes at the statue and portrait of the founder Xattradhikar of the Vaishnavite monastery. Both also participated in the 'naam-kirtan' along with the disciples and followers of 'Ekasarana Dharma'.

Talking to media persons at the Xatra, Chief Minister Sarma assured the masses that the State Government along with the new Xattradhikar Niranjan Boro will take all necessary steps to carry forward the legacy and the ideals of Xattradhikar Hare Krishna Mahanta.
