GUWAHATI: The first Youth20 (Y20) Inception Meeting 2023 under G20 began in Guwahati on Monday.

Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary of the Government of Assam, said that the Assam Government, along with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, had taken up several initiatives to make the youth aware about Y20 and involve them in the process of nation building. He said that as part of the Y20 activities, 46 seminars, 24 workshops, 36 cruises and 44 debates would be organized. Around 4,000 schools will participate in the activities.

On Monday, the Y20 delegates participated in an ice-breaking session at the Brahmaputra sandbar island. In Guwahati, the Youth20 Inception Meeting will be held till February 8.

Briefing the media, Meeta Rajivlochan, Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, informed that Youth20 deliberations hope to reach out to the youth and discuss with them ideas for a better tomorrow. The five themes of Y20 that will be discussed in the three-day event are – Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation and 21st century; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability as a Way of Life; Peace Building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War; Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance; Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth.

In the panel discussion to be held in IIT Guwahati on Tuesday, Meeta Rajivlochan said that the speakers will discuss on a very relevant topic to the Northeast – peace building and reconciliation. At the panel discussion, Bipul Kalita alias Pradip Bharali, a former cadre of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), and Binual Warry, a former cadre of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) will participate.

On February 8, the closing ceremony will be held with the launch of white paper by the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur.

As part of theY20 awareness activities held in various parts of the State, PIB Guwahati, in association with the Education Department, Government of Assam, trained around 50 students across Assam on reporting, documentation and mobile photography.

Started in 2012, the Y-20 is the youth version of the G-20 Summits and it is the only officially recognized platform for young people to engage with the G-20 it is one of the most influential international diplomatic forums for young leaders. It is also one of eight official engagement groups under the G-20 umbrella. Today was the first meeting of the 17 meetings which will be held all across the country culminating in the Youth20 Summit in August.
