GUWAHATI: The flood situation in a few districts in Assam took a turn for the worse in the past 24 hours due to intermitant rainfall. With the death of another person in the Sivasagar district today, the overall death toll of this flood season has increased to 12.

As of date, 21 revenue circles in eight districts in the state have been reeling under floods. The districts are Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Kokrajhar, Sivasagar, and Sonitpur.

According to the ASDMA (Assam State Disaster Management Authority), a total of 75,209 people in 357 villages are affected by floods. The worst-affected district is Dhemaji. As many as 46,754 people are affected by floods in the districts. Following Dhemaji is Sivasagar, with 22,650 affected people.

As of today, nine relief camps are operational in the state—eight in Sivasagar district and one in Sonitpur district—where 1,515 affected people are taking shelter.

According to the CWC (Central Water Commission), the Brahmaputra is flowing above its danger level at three spots: Neamatighat in the Jorhat district, Tezpur in the Sonitpur district, and Dhubri in the Dhubri district. The mighty river is maintaining a rising trend in Dibrugarh and Tezpur.

Other rivers flowing above the danger levels are the Dikhou at Sivasagar, the Disang at Nanglamuraghat in the Sivasagar district, the Jia Bharali at NT Road Crossing in the Sonitpur district, and the Beki river at Road Bridge in the Barpeta district.

The report further said that the Puthimari, Pagladiya, Sonkosh, Gaurang, and Manas are also maintaining rising trends.
