GUWAHATI: The flood situation in the state eased somewhat in the last 24 hours, even though the Brahmaputra continued to flow over the danger level at Tezpur and Nematighat in Jorhat on Saturday.

While 11 districts were affected by floods as on Friday, nine districts remain affected by floods now – Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigan, Nagaon and South Salmara.

A total of 265 villages under 16 revenue circles in nine districts remain affected by floods.

According to the flood bulletin of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the highest number of 97 flood affected villages is in Dhubri, followed by 32 in Dhemaji, 31 each in Majuli and South Salmara, 28 in Golaghat, and 21 in Nagaon.

No fresh area of human habitation was affected by flood in the last 24 hours, but 6,485.86 hectare of cropland was affected. The worst affected in this regard is Dhemaji, with damage to 2,059.40 hectare of cropland, followed by Dhubri (1,382 hectare).

A total of 24,605 heads of livestock remained affected by flood in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.

Erosion has been reported from five districts – Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Majuli, Morigaon and Tinsukia.

According to the Central Water Commission (CWC), the level of the Brahmaputra stabilized in Guwahati (49 M) and Goalpara (35.71 M). However, the river has a rising trend in Dhubri (28.30 M).
