LAKHIMPUR: The communication between Guwahati and Lakhimpur through flight services has ceased once again leading to mixed reactions among the people of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. It happens due to the suspension of direct flights on the Lilabari-Borjhar route by regional commuter airline Flybig from Wednesday.
In order to know the reason for the suspension of the flight, Lilabari Airport Director, when contacted, informed this correspondent that Flybig had suspended its flight between Lilabari and Borjhar due to commercial reasons.
"The reason is commercial. The airline has not shared the reason in detail with us," the Airport Director said. He further added, "Lilabari Airport is available for the airline. The company can use it whenever they want to resume their flight services."
On the other hand, Ratan Ambhore, the Regional Head, of Airport Services, and Flybig expressed that the commuter airline had decided to suspend the flight services because it failed to get the sum promised by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah under UDAAN.
"Lakhimpur MP promised to pay a sum of Rs 4 crore under the UDAAN scheme. The sum has not been paid to Flybig yet. We are facing loss because of fewer passengers on the route. So, our company has decided to suspend the flight services between Lilabari and Guwahati," Ratan Ambhore said.
In this regard, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, while contacted, said to this correspondent that Flybig had failed to provide a regular flight service between Guwahati and Lilabari, as a result of which the passengers of the route had shown their dissatisfaction to travel by their flights.
"Flybig did not operate their flights between Lilabari and Guwahati under UDAAN scheme. They operated their flights in commercial norms coming out of the UDAAN scheme," Pradan Baruah added.
The departure time of the flight at Lilabari Airport which was scheduled for the evening is considered to be the main reason for passengers' dissatisfaction with regard to availing the benefit of the service.
Notably, regional commuter airline Flybig launched direct connectivity between Guwahati and Lakhimpur on November 3 of last year. On the other hand, Ratan Ambhore, the Regional Head, Airport Services, Flybig informed that a decision regarding the resumption of the flight services on this route would be taken after two days. He said that a talk would be held with him in this regard two days later.
