GUWAHATI: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has informed in a tweet on Wednesday, "I tested COVID-19 positive yesterday. People who came in contact with me during the last few days should go for COVID tests immediately."

He is admitted in the GMCH (Gauhati Medical College and Hospital).

Now, the presence of Gogoi appears to be uncertain during the forthcoming four-day Assembly session slated from August 31.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "I wish speedy recovery to former Chief Minister Sri Tarun Gogoi as he has been found COVID-19 positive. We have kept a team of doctors ready for the best possible medical care and assistance to our revered senior leader."

In another tweet, he informed that a dedicated team under the chairmanship of Dr Jogesh Sarma, HOD, Pulmonary Medicine of GMCH, has been constituted to monitor the health status of Gogoi.

As on Wednesday, 22 political leaders including MLAs and MPs have tested COVID-19 positive in Assam. On Tuesday, Ramendra Narayan Kalita — AGP MLA from Guwahati West, and Ajanta Neog – Congress MLA from Golaghat constituency had tested corona positive.
