GUWAHATI: Kamrup (Metropolitan) district has been affected the worst by the fresh wave of COVID-19 infection with the death of seven persons and doubling of positive cases in the last ten days.

On April 9, 2021, the district had reported 153 positive cases. It was followed by 145 on April 10, 186 on April 11, 193 on April 12, 201 on April 13, 249 on April 14, 255 on April 15, 245 on April 16, 360 on April 17, and 354 on April 18. The Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH), Dr. Abhijeet Sarma said there are altogether 826 beds for COVID patients at the GMCH, Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital (MMCH), Kalapahar COVID Hospital, Government Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Sonapur Civil Hospital, and Singimari Model Hospital. While 509 beds are currently occupied by patients, 317 are vacant. Out 86 ICU beds in these hospitals for COVID patients, 33 are occupied.

Dr. Sarma said that 40 per cent of the patients with serious symptoms and conditions are in hospitals, and the rest 60 per cent of the patients are in home isolation.

The GMCH has also said there is enough stock of COVID vaccines in the hospital.
