GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the future of the Assamese will be at stake if they don’t take an uncompromising stance on the security of the state.
The Chief Minister made this statement today while speaking to the media on the occasion of the completion of eleven years by the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “If we don’t awaken ourselves in unison to protect us, how would the Modi government take steps to protect us? A section of the Assamese has started to oppose the policy of pushing back Bangladeshis staying illegally in the state. Following an observation of the Supreme Court of India, we want to expedite the process of detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshis from the state under the provisions of the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act, 1950. However, Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia said on the floor of the House yesterday that the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had kept this act in abeyance way back. This amply means that the Congress has all along been supporting the illegal stay of foreigners in the state.”
The Chief Minister said, “At the time of preparations of the blueprint for the partition of Hindustan and Pakistan, Pakistan wanted to take Assam with them in the grouping. That move failed because of Gopinath Bordoloi. However, they continue to keep an eye on Assam even now. Their dream remained dormant during the India-friendly government in Bangladesh. After Md. Yunus came to the helm of affairs in Bangladesh, that dream of including Assam in Bangladesh got a revival. We’ve identified as many as 2,895 Facebook accounts based in Islamabad, Dhaka, Saudi Arabia, etc. All these account holders have been posting statements on Assam and the Congress. We are monitoring all these accounts. We’ll send a report to the government of India on these accounts for taking further action with Interpol.”
The Chief Minister said, “Another strategy they follow is using beef as a weapon against the Assamese people. They can consume beef during their festivals in their houses. What do they want to do by throwing beef at public places? They threw beef in front of Cotton University, but we haven’t seen protests from any organization against this act. Who can say that such incidents won’t occur in front of the Kamakhya temple after 20 years if we opt to keep mum without protesting?”
On the completion of 11 years by the Narendra Modi government, the Chief Minister said, “The people of the country admitted that the 11-year rule of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain a glorious period in the annals of history. During this period, Assam also witnessed robust development by virtue of Prime Minister Modi. He visited Assam 35 times as the Prime Minister. Spending a night at the Kaziranga National Park, he put Assam on the world tourism map. During his rule, Assam got the classical language status for the Assamese language, the UNESCO heritage tag for Charaideo Maidam, the semiconductor plant, and many other development projects.”
