GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the investigation into details of the Pakistan visit of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi is nearing completion. “We’re waiting for the certified copies of some documents. We’re collecting all information and evidence. We’ll make everything public by September 10 after getting the certified copies of the documents,” the Chief Minister said.

Speaking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, “The police investigators saw the documents and other evidence. However, to collect the certified copies of the documents, we need to go through the Government of India. Providing the certified copies of the documents has a statutory period, which is why we’re waiting for September 10 this year. We will give the report of the SIT (Special Investigation Team) to the Prime Minister and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.”

The chief minister said that ‘this is a clear case of radicalization’. “More information will come to light when we submit our report to the central agencies,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that Gaurav Gogoi had also gone to Palestine and Nepal. He reported to the Israeli authorities about the loss of his passport.

“Gaurav Gogoi’s 15-day Islamabad visit was personal and without informing the Government of India. In seven of the 15 days, Gaurav Gogoi had his wife with him. After that, his wife came back to India. Questions arise as to who he met in the remaining eight days in Islamabad and where he stayed,” the Chief Minister questioned.

The Chief Minister said that after his return from Islamabad, Gaurav Gogoi had gone to the Pakistan embassy in New Delhi, taking 90 boys and girls with him. “Some of the boys and girls informed the investigators that they were not aware of their destination. After reaching the Pakistan Embassy, they came to know that,” the Chief Minister said.
