The Assam government has decided to fill up the vacant third and fourth-grade posts in the offices of various deputy commissioners in the State.

This venture is part of the BJP's poll promise of providing one lakh government jobs in a year. Following a directive from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the GAD (General Administration Department) has already compiled statistics of vacant posts in the offices of deputy commissioners in the State.

It has come to light that 266 grade III and 140 grade IV posts have been lying vacant in various DC offices in the State.

Apart from this, Assam Bhawans/Assam Houses in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Vellore and Shillong together have 45 grade III and 35 grade IV posts lying vacant. According to sources, all these posts are set to be filled up shortly.

The GAD is at the helm of affairs of all these offices – right from DC offices to Assam Bhawans/Houses.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma did form a high-level committee with Finance Minister Ajanta Neog as the chairperson to prepare a roadmap for filling up the vacant posts in various departments of the government.
