GUWAHATI: Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) chairman Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma has appealed to all the regional parties of the Northeast to get united before the 2026 delimitation of constituencies.

Addressing a joint press meet with AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishand) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi here today, Deb Barma said, "If we don't get united before the 2026 delimitation of constituencies, the indigenous people of the Northeast will have nothing. The glorious civilization of the indigenous people of the region will get wiped out.

"We are under threat not only in languages. We face threats in population, employment, economic development, growth etc. We have heard only packages that are yet to get implemented.

"No option is left for us now. I am telling all regional parties of the Northeast if they don't want to become another Tripura, they should help Tripura fight back to get Tipraland. I'm fighting not for my benefit. We are fighting for a constitutional settlement.

"The Government must undo the injustice done to us. The Government of India created this problem by not doing enough for the indigenous people."

When asked how he would repose faith in the regional parties that are allies of the BJP, he said, "If the leaders and political parties don't unite, we will unite the people."

Deb Barma said that the AJP was the first regional party from the Northeast to have extended support to the TIPRA.

Speaking at the same press meet, AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "We, the deprived, oppressed, ignored and exploited communities of the Northeast have taken the pledge to strengthen the regional political movement and take it forward.

"Today, the AJP and the TIPRA have decided to join hands towards political cooperation and begin an initiative to form a united forum of all political parties of the Northeastern region towards a regional political movement."
