GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal have extended their greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of 'Magh Bihu' or 'Bhogali Bihu' as it is more popularly known.
In his message to the people on the occasion, the Governor said that Bihu symbolizes the spirit of integrity, brotherhood and camaraderie amongst all the people irrespective of their caste, creed, religion or language. Bhogali Bihu, an auspicious occasion is a festival of feasting and celebrations. It is a festival to celebrate our own unique culture of harvesting, feasting and worshiping. True to the spirit of Bhogali Bihu where the Mejis are set on fire, we should all give up all our ill-feelings and consign them with the flame of the Mejis to strengthen our bond of unity in a spirit of harmony and friendship.
Chief Minister Sonowal said in his message, "Bhogali Bihu is the embodiment of abundance and mirth as the harvest festival provides an opportunity to the people of the State to strengthen the bond of harmony and brotherhood cutting across all divides. May the fire of Meji drive away all negative forces while bringing everlasting peace and prosperity to everyone's life."
Saying that the celebrations of Bhogali Bihu would bring the people of Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys, plains and hills closer, Sonowal expressed optimism that this festival of merrymaking and joyousness would be able to cement the age-old ties among the communities and ethnicities of the State. He also urged the people to maintain all COVID19 protocols.
