Guwahati: MP Dilip Saikia Takes Charge as President of BJP Assam Pradesh

GUWAHATI: MP Dilip Saikia took charge as the president of the BJP Assam Pradesh today, soon after his declaration as state party president by the party’s election in-charge, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Present at the ‘Sangathan Parv’ of the party that concluded here today were Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, outgoing state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, the party’s Northeast coordinator Dr. Samvit Patro, and others.

In his speech after taking over charge as the state party president, Dilip Saikia said, “The party has entrusted me with a great responsibility. I will continue to work in accordance with the party’s avowed policy—president presides and team decides. I’ll follow the doctrine of talking less and doing more work. I’ll try my level best to upgrade the winning streak of the party in the election-packed days ahead—the Assembly election in 2026, the panchayat poll, elections to various councils, and the BTR. I’ll lead the party in the state with a strong footing to translate the Chief Minister’s dream of placing Assam among the top five states in the country.”

Starting from the launch pad of the RSS, Saikia held posts like the organisational secretary of the ABVP, Assam; BJYM’s state president; organisational general secretary of the BJP Assam Pradesh; national general secretary of the BJP, etc. He was elected to the parliament twice.

Today’s ‘Sangathan Parv’ of the party also named 22 state party leaders as members of the National Council of the BJP. Some of the prominent members of the national council of the party are Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MP Rameswar Teli, ministers Ajanta Neog, Prashanta Phukan, and others.
