Guwahati: Following the final rehearsal of the ‘Jhumoir Binandini’ programme, everything is set for the event at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati on Monday. Over 8,800 dancers from Assam’s tea tribe communities will perform their traditional Jhumur dance at the historic cultural spectacle, which will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other dignitaries, both from within and outside the country.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was present during the final rehearsal on Sunday evening, and he took stock of the preparations.
PM Modi confirmed his presence at the event by posting on X, “On the 24th evening, I will be at the Jhumoir Binandini programme in the vibrant city of Guwahati. This programme celebrates the culture of Assam, especially the tea tribes and other tribal communities of the state. The Central and Assam governments are working continuously for their welfare. On the 25th, I will take part in the Advantage Assam Investment Summit, which seeks to add momentum to the state’s development journey.”
The event will be telecast live to more than 800 tea gardens in the state, the CM said.
The dance will be performed by around 8,800 men and women dressed in traditional costumes, accompanied by band of musicians playing traditional instruments like dhol, madal, dhamasa and bamboo flute.
