Hagrama Mohilary's petition: Gauhati High Court (HC) directs Governor to file affidavit

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court today directed the Assam Governor's office to file an affidavit regarding the appointment of Pramod Boro as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

After the BTC polls in 2020, the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) emerged as the single-largest party by winning 17 seats out of 40 seats. BPF president Hagrama Mohilary had filed a representation on 13.12.2020 before the Governor of Assam for inviting him to form the BTC council. But after the Governor administered oath to the executive council led by Pramod Boro of the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), Mohilary filed a writ petition (5650/2020). In the petition, it was stated that the BTC executive council formed with Pramod Boro as CEM was "in violation of all expressed provision of law".

During a hearing in the case today, the court directed the Assam Governor's office to file an affidavit in this regard. The court also directed the members of the council to submit their reply before the next hearing. The court scheduled the next hearing on January 18, 2023.
