GUWAHATI: People of Assam have shown an overwhelming response to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Ahead of the Independence Day celebration and Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, national flags worth more than Rs 16.07 crore have been sold so far in Assam.

Altogether 32,58,134 National Flags prepared by the self-help groups were sold till Tuesday across the State. The total amount received from this sale is Rs 12.47 crore. Altogether 35,95,167 National Flags have been stitched by more than 23,000 self-help group members. There are 19,110 SHG sales outlets of National Flags in the State.

Apart from the local production of the National Flags, the Government of Assam has placed a requirement for another 50 lakh flags to the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. And to date, 39.26 lakh flags have been received by the State Government.

Expressing happiness over the overwhelming response by people ahead of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Tuesday, "The #HarGharTiranga campaign organized as part of #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav is being carried out in full swing across Assam. I'm happy to share that so far over 53 lakh #Tiranga have been sold – 20 lakh from Fair Price Shops & 33 lakh from ASRLM – in our State."

State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass said that measures had been taken to make National Flags available at 36,000 fair-price shops across the State. Fair price (FP) shops are providing these flags to NFSA beneficiaries at Rs 18 per flag. So far, around 20 lakh National Flags worth Rs 3.60 crore have been sold at these FP shops.

The minister further said that the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) had prepared 35 lakh National Flags through self-help groups. He appealed to people to make the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign a success by hoisting the National Flag in their homes, offices and business establishments.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which will be celebrated from August 13 to August 15 to mark 75 years of India's independence. Under this initiative, 20 crore National Flags will be hoisted across the country with the active participation of the people.

The Government of Assam has adopted various means to encourage the people to hoist the tricolour at their homes, offices and commercial establishments to make the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign a success. Initiatives are also being taken by the State Government to see more than 80 lakh National Flags being hoisted during the three-day campaign to display patriotism towards the nation. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also released a theme song and video recently to generate more awareness about the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
