Hardcore ULFA rebel gunned down

Guwahati, April 27: Acting on a specific input about the presence of ULFA's self-styled sergeant major Rongmon Asom alias Mecuri, a search operation was launched by an Army team in Talpathar village of Tinsukia district on April 25. The rebel was spotted in the wee hours today and was neutralized in a fierce gunbattle. An AK-81 assault rifle along with a magazine and some other items were recovered from the spot, defence spokesman Lt Col Suneet Newton said.
