GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made it clear that he is not in a hurry to expand his Council of Ministers.

Talking to the media today, the Chief Minister said, "I have not thought of expanding the ministry now. Let the present ministers work for a year. After a year, the issue of ministry expansion may come up."

The strength of the Council of Ministers in the state can be 19, including the Chief Minister. However, the Chief Minister is working with a team of 14 ministers, including him.

Sources say that the Chief Minister does not want to expand the present team of ministers till the government completes a year. He wants to review the one-year performance of the ministers. It will help him decide whom to keep and whom to axe while expanding his team. His current team does not represent many districts and communities.

The situation was not different in the Sarbananda Sonowal's Council of Ministers. Sonowal had to work with a slim team for about two years. After that, he expanded his ministry, but one seat remained vacant till the expiry of his term.
