HC directs CBI probe into Dimapur killing

Guwahati, Sept 7: The division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice (acting) K Sreedhar Rao and Justice PK Saikia today directed the CBI to investigate the killing of rape-accused Syed Sarif Khan in Dimapur. The investigating agency has been directed to submit its report within six months.

On March 5 last, a mob had lynched Khan after dragging him out from the Central Jail in Dimapur. Khan was accused of raping a 20-year-old ga girl. He was  paraded ked, beaten up and later hanged from the clock tower in Dimapur. Khan belonged to Bosla in Karimganj in Assam.
