GUWAHATI: To help out the next of kin of a slain BSF jawan in cash and kind, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had to take a roundabout route via the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). BSF ASI Bipul Bora, hailing from Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district in Assam, was killed in a Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh recently. The Chief Minister wants to help out the next of kin of the slain BSF jawan with Rs 20 lakh and a job to a member of his family. However, the major hurdle impeding his wish is the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) currently in force in the State for the general elections. This has led Sonowal to instruct the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner to send a scheme to the government for helping out the next of kin of the slain BSF jawan with Rs 20 lakh and a job to one of his kin through the CEO. The roundabout move conforms to the MCC and his humane treatment to people in distress as well.
