Heroin worth Rs 21 crore seized in Karbi Anglong

BOKAJAN: In yet another successful operation against drug trafficking, the Karbi Anglong Police has seized a huge consignment of drugs along the inter-State boundary area at Lahorijan over NH-36 on Sunday. The seized pure heroin is estimated to cost approximately Rs 21 crore in the international market.

Based on specific information about the smuggling of contraband drugs in vehicles, the Dillai police personnel intercepted a Guwahati-bound truck on the highway. On thorough checking, the police team fished out six packets containing over three kilograms of heroin from the vehicle.

"The driver (Rame Gurung) and his co-driver (Bhim Gurung) have been arrested in this connection. Both are residents of Manipur. As per preliminary investigations, the contraband was being taken to Guwahati from Imphal.

Karbi Anglong SP Debojit Deori said, "We don't want to divulge details as we are planning to conduct operations in other parts of the State and bust the delivery network of the smugglers."

In the past couple of months, police have seized over 15 kilograms of heroin and other drugs in Karbi Anglong alone, added the SP.
