STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement for commencement of a Covid vaccination drive for youngsters aged between 15 and 18 years, Assam's Health & Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta has instructed senior officials of the Health Department and National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, to ensure that at least one such vaccination camp is organized on 3rd January 2022 at some chosen schools in each district and sub-division of the state.

The authorities will now prepare a working plan for the vaccination drive. Talking to The Sentinel after a meeting at the NHM office in the city today, Mahanta said that precautionary measures must be scrupulously followed because the Covid menace is far from over. Night curfew from 11.30 p.m. has been already enforced in the state and people should abide by the protocol laid down by the Government, he said.

However, he said, night curfew would be relaxed on Friday, 31st December.

When asked whether any Omicron case has been detected in Assam so far, the Minister stated that a few international travellers have been found to be Covid positive but they are not infected by the Omicron variant.
