How to get a driving licence

Are you 18 years old and in the need of a driving licence? Log on to parivahan.gov.in and apply online to the DTO (District Transport Officer) of the district you belong to with a fee of Rs 380. Your address proof, age proof and a passport size photocopy should accompany the application. After receiving your application, the DTO will give you a date for a traffic signal computer test. Your documents will also be verified on the day of the test. In the test you will have to respond correctly to at least six of the ten questions. Clearance of the test will let you get a learner’s driving licence for a six-month period. One month after getting the learner’s licence, you can apply for the final licence with a fee of Rs 1,000, besides Rs 88 for the issuance of the card. An applicant has to qualify the driving test before getting the final licence.
