GUWAHATI: This academic session, the answer scripts evaluation processes of HSLC (High School Leaving Certificate) and even Higher Secondary (HS) examinations may get hampered what with a large number of teachers engaged in the ongoing NRC updating process and the possibility of many of them likely to be engaged in the forthcoming Lok Sabha (LS) elections, fear experts.
This is despite the fact that “the evaluation process of HSLC answer scripts started on Thursday in 38 zones across the State”, stated a SEBA source.”
“Around 15,000 teachers are generally involved in the evaluation of HSLC answer scripts each year. To check the scripts of a particular subject, at least 1,000 teachers are required,” the source added, pointing out that “one teacher can check at the most just 30 copies daily”.
“Though the SEBA curricula are taught in six mediums, this academic year the question papers were set only in five of them,” he pointed out. “These were in the mediums of Assamese, Bengali, Boro, English, Hindi, and Manipuri. However examinees opting for the Manipuri language are being distributed question papers only in the English script,” the source said.
Meanwhile till Thursday, around 283 HSLC examinees were expelled across the State for adopting unfair means during examination. Of them, the highest number of around 75 candidates being expelled has been reported from Hailakandi district, he pointed out.
The HSLC examination commenced from February 14 this year. On the other hand, the HS examination started in Assam from February 12 this year.
On the other hand, a source in the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) told The Sentinel that around 12,000 teachers are required for the answer script evaluation process each year.” Referring to the forthcoming parliamentary election in the State, the source said, “If the government teachers are involved in the poll process then there is a likelihood of the evaluation process getting delayed. The evaluation process of the HS answer scripts would begin shortly.”
