IMD Predicts Heavy Rains in Northeast till April 27

IMD (India Meteorological Department) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Northeast India till April 27.

GUWAHATI: IMD (India Meteorological Department) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Northeast India till April 27. In the past 24 hours, Guwahati and various other parts in the state received a good amount of rainfall. The heavy shower this morning also inundated various areas in Guwahati.

The weather symptom, according to the IMD, is such that an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and its neighbourhood between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under the influence of this weather condition, fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 km/h gusting to 60 km/h) is likely over Northeast India during the next seven days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during April 22-27 and heavy rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on April 23 and 25, 2025.

According to the IMD, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura recorded heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours when Bokajan AEGCL in the Karbi Anglong district received the highest rainfall of 9 cm in Assam. The areas in Assam that received six cm of rainfall in the past 24 hours are Shillogani AGRI in the Nagaon district and Morigaon. Guwahati received 6 am rainfall in the past 24 hours.

In Meghalaya, Bhaghmara in the South Garo Hills district received the highest rainfall of 6 cm in the hill state.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Palin received the highest rainfall of 6 cm in the past 24 hours.
