GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the northeastern states, including Assam, will receive rainfall till August 11, 2025. Assam received rainfall in almost all districts in the past 24 hours, with Algapur in the Hailakandi district receiving the highest rainfall of 19 cm in the state.
An IMD bulletin issued on August 5 said, “Light/moderate rainfall at many places accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and isolated heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from August 5 to 11, with isolated very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from August 7 to 11 and Nagaland on August 7 and 8, 2025.”
On current meteorological conditions, IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Guwahati, said, “The upper air cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam persists and is now seen at 0.9 km above mean sea level.”
According to RMC, various areas in Assam received 5 cm or above rainfall in the past 24 hours—Algapur Circle AWS (Hailakandi) 19 cm, AP Ghat (Cacher) 18 cm, Silchar (Cacher) 14 cm, Karimganj (Agri) (Sribhumi) 11 cm, BP Ghat (Sribhumi) 11 cm, Aie NH Xing (Bongaigaon) 10 cm, Srijangram (Arg) (Bongaigaon) 9 cm, Karimganj (AWS) (Sribhumi) 7 cm, Chirang (AWS) (Chirang) 7 cm, Barpeta (Kvk AWS) (Barpeta) 6 cm, Manas NH Xing (Barpeta) 6 cm, Kajalgaon (AWS) (Chirang) 6 cm, Gharmura (Hailakandi) 6 cm, Bongaigaon (AWS) (Bongaigaon) 5 cm, Kokrajhar (Kokrajhar) 5 cm, Beki Rd. Bridge (Barpeta) 5 cm, and Udaipur (Tinsukia) 5 cm.
