Mastermind PK Dutta's aides spill the beans

GUWAHATI: "Inquiry is being done in an impartial manner so that the guilty can be brought to the book. Action will be taken against all involved in the case," said State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna here on Sunday. He was addressing the media with respect to the investigations into the recent scam to recruit 597 Sub Inspectors (Unarmed branch) of the Assam Police on September 20 last.

Meanwhile, Police sources informed that two persons have confessed that the duo had helped the alleged mastermind behind the scam — former DIG (Deputy Inspector General) PK Dutta — to flee from Guwahati on September 23. Both accompanied Dutta in a private car to Siliguri, from where Dutta fled to Nepal reportedly with the help of his son in-law the following day.

The duo identified as Dilip Gogoi alias Bhai (55 years) and Priyanath Gogoi alias Jintu Gogoi (42 years) are close aides of Dutta. Both are in judicial custody now. On September 30, the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) of the Assam Police had arrested the duo from Dibrugarh. The third person – Anwar Ali — also arrested by the CID from Baihata Chariali on that same day, has confessed that he concealed that vehicle — which has been already recovered by the CID.

Stating that strict vigil is being kept on the family members of Dutta's son in-law in Kathmandu, the sources however added that Dutta is not there. Police suspect that Dutta is hiding somewhere at Pokhara – in Nepal.

In another development on Sunday, Police raided the house of a person identified as Rockibul Islam at Jonia in Barpeta district.
