GUWAHATI: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar said that India is changing and this rise is unstoppable. “Those who used to advise us are now taking our advice,” he said.

Interacting with students and faculty members of Cotton University here today, Dhankhar called upon the educational institutions to be crucibles of change in society. “Education is the most potent medium to even out inequalities,” he said, and he appealed to everyone to antidote and neutralise the anti-Bharat narrative orchestrated by some.

The Vice President said, “If we manage to have quality education, other things will fall into place.”

“During the last decade, India has travelled the journey from being among the fragile five economies to the fifth largest economy in the world. Now, India’s voice is heard on every global platform,” he said.

On Cotton University, he said, “This is a great place; this institution has made several contributions through its alumni in various works of life, politics being one of them. The state of Assam has eight chief ministers from this place. So much is the political reach of this place that one of your students became Chief Minister of one of the northeastern states, Nagaland.

“You are descending minds. You will share the future of Bharat. You will decide what Bharat will be in 2047 when it celebrates the centenary of his independence. His focus on education is remarkable. It exemplifies his commitment to the authentic development of the nation.

“I have no doubt that education is the most impactful, lasting transformational mechanism to change society. To even out inequalities and combat inequalities, if we manage to have quality education, other things will fall into place. I fully agree, endorse, and appeal to everyone to follow it. Educational institutions are not required to do their usual work. They have to be crucial to change, and change comes when you engage in innovation, research, and development and think outside the box. I have no doubt about his reference to Nalanda and Takshila. We are on our way to becoming one.”

He further said, “I would appeal to the Chief Minister that this Cotton University and his predecessor Cotton College have alumni spread all over. Please have bi-annual alumni meetings. Call upon the alumni to give back to society through the college, and there will be a geometric dimension to your growth”.

He said, “The rise of India is on an incremental trajectory; the rise is unstoppable! The world is stunned at our growth. Our Amrit kaal is also our Gaurav kaal because we are on a path that is in accordance with our civilizational ethos of working for everyone’s welfare”.

“The voice of Bharat, the voice of the Indian Prime Minister, has never been more impactful than it is now! The world looks at Bharat, asking what viewpoint Bharat has at that stage. So all of you boys and girls are extremely lucky to be living in times where tasks are cut out for you. Just a decade ago, when we were fragile-five, we were a matter of concern for the entire world. In 2022, overtaking Great Britain and France, India became the fifth largest global economy. By the turn of this decade, in 2030, we would have overtaken Japan and Germany to become the third largest global economy.”
