Home quarantined people in Assam have been geo-fenced. Geo-fencing is a virtual boundary up to 150 metres around a home quarantined people's location so as to keep real-time tabs on his/her attempts to break out of the preventive isolation.
Geo-fencing is a location-based service in which an app developed by NIC Assam using cellular data, is used. It triggers an alert when a mobile device exits the virtual boundary set up around its registered geographical location.
The COVID Suraksha app monitors the movement of any home quarantined person beyond 150 meters of his allowed location. With the alert, health workers can rush to the spot and put him in quarantine again.
