
If you are a senior citizen and wish to go on pilgrimage in a group, then the benefits under the ‘Dharmajyoti’ are here for you to avail. This scheme is under the Department of Transformation and Development, Assam. Its prime objective is to provide special concessions to senior pilgrims visiting religious places across the country. Under this scheme, 50% of transportation cost is borne by the Government of Assam.
The ‘Dharmajyoti’ is implemented by the Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) with funds being provided by the Transformation and Development Department. This scheme is open only for pilgrim groups with at least 20 persons. Age of the participants must be more than 60 years.
HOW TO APPLY: The applicants need to fill up the prescribed form that can be obtained from ASTC offices. Important documents will have to be attached with the filled-up form. These are age proof (voter ID, birth certificate); Aadhaar card; identity card; and above all a permanent residence proof of Assam. Once these steps are completed, you’ll have to submit the application form along with the documents to the nearest ASTC office.
