A new way of policing called ‘smart policing’ is defined through a set of five principles – strict and sensitive, modern and mobile, alert and accountable, reliable and responsive, techno-savvy and trained. This is a concept that is realized through an ambitious project of the Assam Police – Citizen Portal. This portal has been developed under Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The e-services available in Citizen Portal enable citizens to submit anything they want through online. The portal has facilities to track and monitoring online request submitted to the police. The e-services currently available with the portal are tenant verification, domestic help verification, employee verification, character certification, request for permission of protests or strikes or processions, request for obtaining permission for event management etc.
