

Information: Parking A Car? Take Note of These Don’ts122 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 doesn’t allow you to park your car on a road or a public place in such a way that may create troubles for pedestrians or other users of the road. Section of 127 of the same Act empowers the police to tow a car away for violation of its (the Act’s) Section 122 and charge an amount as towing cost, besides imposing fine or punitive measures.
Rule 15 of the Rules of Road Regulations, 1989 spells it out that you cannot park your car (a) at junctures of roads, on hills and on any bridges, (b) on footpaths, (c) near traffic lights and any other places being used by pedestrians, (d) on main roads or roads on which vehicles move apace, (e) opposite to already parked cars creating problems for other vehicles, (f) parallel to already parked cars at same places, (g) on roads where white/yellow lines are drawn, (h) near bus stops, entrances of educational and health institutions, (i) on wrong sides of roads, (j) at no-parking zones and (k) away from footpaths covering part of main roads.
