GUWAHATI: State ADGP (law and order) GP Singh has said that investigation is on against crimes and criminals involved in the current unrest in the State, and not on the involvement of any third party in it. When asked on the possible involvement of any third party in the agitation against the CAA, the ADGP during an exclusive interview with The Sentinel, however, refused to comment on the issue.

On the number of people arrested for damaging public property in the State, the police officer said, “As of now, 1,406 people have been picked up, 175 of them have been arrested.”

On the withdrawal of ban on Internet services in Kamrup (M) and some other districts in the State, the ADGP said, “As of now, Internet services have been banned. However, we’re reviewing the law-and-order situation in the State. If the situation improves, we’ll hold discussions with all stakeholders and inform the service providers to resume their services. However, as of now, Internet services have been banned in some districts in the State.”

When asked on the withdrawal of curfew in the State, Singh said, “The situation in the State is fast returning to normalcy. I thank the people of the State for this. We’re reviewing the situation. We’ll withdraw the curfew as and when there will be total normalcy in the State.”

On the deployment of CAPF (Central Armed Police Force) personnel deployed in the State, the ADGP refused to divulge the exact figure, but said, “We’ve deployed adequate number of forces to tackle the situation in the State.”

State ADGP (law and order) Singh was posted to this post four days back when the situation in the State worsened during the agitation against the CAA.
