GUWAHATI: The names of voters without their photos in the photo electoral roll will be deleted if they fail to submit their coloured passport-size photos by November 24, 2020.

Voter's photo is a must with his/her photo electoral roll. According to the draft electoral roll of Assam published recently, the State has 2,24,39,522 voters and one per cent (2.50 lakh) of them are without their photos in the roll.

Following a directive from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the State Election department has urged the voters of the State whose photos are not in the photo electoral roll to submit photos by November 24, 2020. Such voters will have to submit their photos either to their respective district election offices or the booth-level officers of polling stations concerned.

Talking to The Sentinel, Kamrup (M) District Election Officer Jharna Patgiri said, "Around 11,000 voters in the district don't have their photos in the electoral roll. They've to submit their photos within the stipulated time. We've sent them notices. If they don't submit their photos, we'll start deletion of such names from the electoral roll from November 28, 2020."

The State Election department published the draft electoral roll recently. Now the process for claims and objections is underway. The process will continue till December 15, 2020. The final electoral roll will be published on January 15, 2021.
