Jagdish Mukhi, CM, mourn Burha Xatriya Basistha Dev Sarma's death

GUWAHATI: Assam's Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed grief on Saturday at the demise of Burha Xatriya of Barpeta Xatra, Basistha Dev Sarma.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that Burha Xatriya Basistha Dev Sarma made invaluable contribution to the spiritual and cultural life of Assam. An ardent follower of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev and Sri Sri Madhabdev, the Burha Xatriya dedicated his life for the promotion of xatriya culture, Dr. Sarma said, adding that he would always be remembered by the people of Assam. The Chief Minister also termed his passing away as an irreparable loss to the society, and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul while conveying his condolences to the bereaved family.
