GUWAHATI: Responding to the common perception regarding a section of employees of the Assam Secretariat (Janata Bhavan) being habitually unpunctual in reporting for duty, the state government has decided to implement the e-attendance (biometric) system for its employees.
As of now, employees of Assam Secretariat register their attendance via manual signatures, which makes it difficult to keep tabs on latecomers. The biometric system is being introduced to record real-time entry and exit of the employees concerned. A tender has been already floated by the General Administration Department (GAD) for installation of the biometric attendance system, which will have face-recognition facility.
GAD sources said that the biometric attendance system will be installed in every block of the Janata Bhavan complex, adding that the system is likely to become operational by April-May next.
It is pertinent to mention that as per an initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the GAD recently feted diligent 481 employees of the Janata Bhavan, including officers, by awarding them with badges emblazoned with either 'I am proud to be punctual' or 'I work hard for my state'. This move is aimed at motivating the employees to be more punctual and sincere in their work.
It may be mentioned that the office hours in government offices of the state are 9:30 am to 5 pm.
